When it comes to planning your next event or your wedding in NYC, there’s a seemingly endless number of hotels, event halls, and restaurants to host your soiree. But, as you’re searching The Knot or WeddingWire for the venue for you, you may honestly be missing out on some incredible spots. There are so many unique event spaces in NYC that are hidden gems… and today, we’re uncovering them!
We’re sharing our favorite non-traditional NYC wedding venues and event venues to spark a little creative inspiration for your wedding day!
Just because you’re in the heart of Brooklyn overlooking Manhattan doesn’t mean you can’t have your dream wedding among the barrels of cab sav you both love sipping on! There are two super special wineries in NYC that offer incredible private event spaces:
Brooklyn Winery recently opened a new location between Williamsburg and Greenpoint, where they have a carefully curated event space that features exposed brick, lush plant life, and of course, views of the new and improved barrel room.
Rooftop Reds allows you to say “I Do” among the 200+ red Bordeaux grapevines they’ve cultivated. Gorgeous vines, dreamy twinkle lights, Bordeaux flowing, and a sparkling city skyline in the distance… is there anything more romantic?
An Airbnb or VRBO Rental
If you’re someone who loves the idea of a non-traditional wedding, hosting your special day at an Airbnb or VRBO in NYC could be a dream come true. But before you start planning, there are a few things to consider.
First, does the space have enough room for all of your guests? Is there outdoor space for a ceremony or reception? Does the venue allow for vendors such as catering, music, and photography?
While non-traditional venues like these can be full of charm and personality, they also require extra legwork to ensure everything runs smoothly. But with the right approach, hosting your wedding at an Airbnb or VRBO can create a one-of-a-kind celebration that you and your guests will never forget. Relish in the unique atmosphere while creating memories that will last a lifetime, and don’t let the practicalities overshadow the magic! We can help with the details…
Here are a couple we love:
- Event Loft by Grand Central offers a vintage, whimsical indoor and outdoor space!
- West Chelsea Studios Penthouse features a pristine modern vibe with views for days.
Theatres in the city aren’t just for Broadway shows! You can rent them out for your next event too. Think about how much fun it would be to have the band on stage at a different vantage point for your guests. It almost makes them feel like they’re at an exclusive show, not your wedding or event. We love the idea of playing a montage of your favorite moments on the big screen while the band plays or planning a surprise flash mob dance. What’s a wedding without some wow-factor surprises?!
The other plus of this type of venue is that all the lighting (or at least the majority of it) is actually built into the venue to add an extra touch of drama, romance, and personality. Perfect for arts-loving pairs!
Here are a few we love (we had to start with a couple of classics…):
A penthouse wedding can provide stunning views of the city, a serene atmosphere, and an extra touch of exclusivity for the couple and their guests. While we know there are a lot of penthouse dwellers in the Big Apple, what you may not realize is that there is only ONE penthouse that offers the full floor for wedding rentals.
Manhattan Penthouse offers a peek at landmarks like the Empire State Building, Times Square, and One World Trade, all from one location on 5th Ave.
It has all the amenities you need for a memorable evening filled with love and luxury.
A Public Venue
If you want a really exclusive, fun vibe, it’s a great option to rent out a public venue that everyone adores for a private event. What do we mean when we say that? Think museums, galleries, and parks—places people love to spend time and would want an exclusive look at. Imagine saying “I do” surrounded by exotic animals, lush gardens, or priceless works of art! You don’t have to be an animal lover, history buff, or art aficionado to appreciate the wonder you’ll create by hosting your wedding at one of these magical and iconic city spots.
A few we love for parties, events, and weddings in NYC are:
- The Central Park Zoo in Midtown or, any of the many magical zoos or the aquarium
- Merchant’s House Museum in the East Village
- Brooklyn Botanic Garden in Prospect Park
- New York Public Library in Bryant Park
