If you’re new around here, JME is run by a husband and wife duo with two sweet little babes that keep us on our toes! So, we know firsthand that being a parent is one of the most incredible experiences anyone can be blessed with in life. And welcoming this new chapter of life deserves a celebration, if we do say so ourselves!
When it comes to planning a baby shower, there are a lot of details to manage. From the venue (here are a few of our faves in Connecticut) to the decor to the favors—it can feel overwhelming. Especially as you’re also planning to bring another precious life into the world! So, our top tip for clients when we’re the baby shower planner in NYC, CT, or beyond is this: Choose a baby shower theme you LOVE!
Choosing a baby shower theme streamlines everything. It helps you choose your venue, your color palette, your decor scheme, your desserts (you better bet this is the highlight of the shower for a mama-to-be), and more.
So today, we want to share some inspiration in the form of ten baby shower theme ideas that you can use to guide your baby shower planning and make it FUN. Just like parenthood!
Apple of Our Eye Baby Shower
Now, we’re talking about the big apple, of course! When a little New Yorker is born, there’s no better theme to welcome them.
If your sweet little bundle will be growing up on the swings in Central Park, attending music classes at Little Maestros, or learning their first words during storytime at The New York Public Library, why not start their life off with a little Manhattan flair?
Venue: Choose a quintessential NYC venue like The St. Regis New York, 5th Avenue, or the beautiful outdoor space at Tribeca Rooftop overlooking your little one’s home.
Food & Drink: Offer personalized desserts like candied apples, sugar cookies decorated with yellow taxis or a red apple, or perhaps individual apple tarts with tea.
Decor: Depending on the season, you can get creative here. We love the idea of hosting this as a fall baby shower theme and tying it in with deep fall hues, leaves and greenery, and of course, apples!
Eloise at The Plaza Baby Shower
Sticking to the NYC inspiration for now, if you’re having a little girl, an Eloise-inspired soiree would be the most perfect way to welcome her! Gather your friends and family for afternoon tea, followed by gifts and treats in a private space at The Plaza Hotel.
Venue: Well, The Plaza, of course! Bonus points if you book a little staycation for the Mommy- and Daddy-to-Be in the Eloise Suite after the baby shower.
Food & Drink: The plus of hosting a baby shower with a theme like Eloise is the food and drink is pretty much built-in as a part of the story (literally and figuratively). Afternoon tea it is!
Decor: Go with all the pink hues, stripes, and tea cups galore! The decor will be mostly the simply incredible surroundings, but give simple pink roses for favors or have every guest sign a framed print of the Plaza for your baby girl’s nursery.
Baby Showers Bring May Flowers
A fun take on the quintessential favorite, “Baby in Bloom,” you can do a rain- and flower-inspired theme for May babies! Or, the Baby in Bloom theme goes all year round.
Venue: Choose a venue that has water features, lots of blooming flowers, or both! Some favorites of ours include The Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden with its greenhouse-style venue or the Farmington Gardens Greenhouse in Connecticut.
Food & Drink: All the edible flowers! Have a dessert bar with sugar cookies or tarts topped with edible flowers or fresh vegan ceviches with fruits with an edible flower atop.
Decor: Hang parasols or umbrellas with floral chandeliers, set up crystal centerpieces that are reminiscent of raindrops, and choose all the blue and white hues for linens, glassware, etc.
It’s About to Get Wild
Let’s be honest. The entrance to parenthood can feel a little wild sometimes. Which is part of the fun! So, channel that wild journey in a fun way for the baby shower with a safari or wildlife theme!
Venue: Is there any better location for a wild/ safari-themed baby shower than a zoo? We think not! Throughout New York and Connecticut, you’ll find amazing zoos and aquariums that have event space for baby showers. A few options could be the Central Park Zoo or the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk!
Food & Drink: A custom cake or fun animal print cake pops that will make your guests go bananas is the best treat at an animal-themed baby shower. Pair that with some virgin pina coladas for a sweet welcome to your little babe.
Decor: Go safari-themed for the decor with animal print linens, monstera centerpieces or chargers, and draped greenery photo walls!
Welcome to the World, Baby
For travel-loving parents, an adventure-themed baby shower will be a fun way to kick off their greatest adventure yet!
Venue: This one will take off anywhere you host it! Consider a boutique hotel with a fun vibe like the MADE Hotel on 29th and Broadway or The Barn at GrayBarns in Norwalk!
Food & Drink: Globally-inspired food stations are an extra fun way to get guests mingling and nibbling throughout the shower. Do a pasta station, a taco station, and a bao bun station—whatever the Mom- and Dad-to-Be’s favorite foods are. An agua fresca station is a fun mocktail option, too!
Decor: Globes, maps, vintage suitcases, planes, trains, and automobiles! Anything and everything related to travel is fair game for a Welcome to the World baby shower theme.
